In some cases when a person smiles, the upper lip pulls up away from the teeth, showing a large amount of gum tissue. Lip tacking, or "lip repositioning", is a procedure to reduce the amount of gum that shows when smiling. The tissue connecting the inside upper lip to the gum is slightly repositioned closer to the the teeth. This creates a more balanced smile, while not affecting the person's natural facial appearance or oral functioning.
Procedure: An incision is made along inside of the upper lip, exposing the connective tissue. The tissue is then sutured at the desired position above the teeth and allowed to heal.
